Baby Swimming Lessons in Blacktown: When to Start and What to Expect

If you live in Blacktown or nearby Western Sydney suburbs, you have probably wondered when your baby is ready for the pool. At Little Fishes, babies can start parent-and-baby swimming lessons from 6 months of age.
What age should babies start swimming lessons?
Our Baby Classes run for babies aged 6 to 18 months. Classes are 30 minutes long and focus on water confidence and early water safety skills, with a parent in the water the whole time. At 18 months, children move up to Baby Fish 2 and then Toddler Fish.
What happens in a baby swimming class?
Safe entries and exits from the pool
Floating and recovering to a safe position
Kicking and early breath-control games
Songs and play that keep the class fun and gentle
Classes are designed to be gentle and never distressing. Many parents tell us the half hour in the water is a highlight of their week together.
Why a warm indoor pool matters for babies
Babies lose heat quickly, so water temperature matters. Our indoor pool is heated to around 32°C all year, so lessons continue through winter and rainy days without cancellations.
