The School Holiday Intensive program will be running again during the Spring school holidays. The program will run in the first week of holidays, from Tuesday 27 – Friday 30 September.

The intensive program focuses on stroke development and technique improvement, and is a great option for your children if they’re almost ready to move up a level, and need just a bit of additional instruction to get there. It’s also a great way to wear them out during the holidays!!!

The program is $55.00 and students must attend one lesson per day for the four days.

To all our valued Little Fishes Families

On Monday the 5th of September 2016 our fees will increase from $66.00 to $68.00 for 4 weeks of lessons (just 50 cents per lesson). In the past we have billed at the beginning of every month. Occasionally this has meant in some months swimmers received 5 lessons instead of 4. From Monday the 5th of September we will overcome this by billing every 4 weeks in advance. Our payment processing fee will also increase by just 50 cents from $3.00 to $3.50 per family per month. These increases are our first since 1st March 2014.

Our one-off registration fee for new or re-enrolling families will remain at $25.00, which includes a Happy Nappy reusable swim nappy, or a pair of goggles and swim cap, depending on the age of the child.

There are no changes to our very popular make-up lesson policy; you are still entitled to 10 make-up lessons per calendar year, which you can book 24 hours in advance.

 “FREE TRIAL LESSON” – For any friends or family who may be considering swimming lessons, we are now offering a no obligation “FREE TRIAL LESSON”.  

If their children enjoy their lessons parents can then confidently complete their registration knowing Little Fishes is the right school for them.

Water Safety Week: 4th – 10th July 2016

July 4 – 10 is Water Safety Week at Little Fishes, and we’re having a Pyjama Party to celebrate!

This is a chance for our students to have a bit of fun in the pool by wearing their PJs IN THE WATER! Yep – they’ll be swimming in their jammies!

So make sure you dress your kids in a pair of PJs for their lesson during Water Safety Week, and bring some dry clothes for them to change into afterwards.

It’s going to be fun!

Water Safety Fun Week

It’s our last week of swimming before we close for a break over Christmas, so we’re have a Water Safety Fun Week at Little Fishes.

This is a chance for our students to have a bit of fun in the pool, but to also test their knowledge of water safety, not just in the pool but at the beach as well. We’ll talk about swimming between the flags, staying safe in the pool and of course have some fun and games as well.

For parents, we have an information table set up which we encourage you to visit. Learn about how to identify a rip at the beach, and most importantly, learn about CPR. You can purchase CPR in a Box – the program from Royal Life Saving which allows individuals to learn the core skills of CPR in under 30 minutes, using their own personal Mini-Anne CPR Manikin.

The many benefits of continuing swimming lessons in Winter

With the weather starting to get cooler, the idea of swimming often loses its appeal, and we tend to see many families not coming into the centre for their regular weekly swimming lessons. But as nice as it might be to stay home and rug up instead of coming to swimming, there are actually many benefits of swimming throughout Winter.

Over Summer we tend to spend a lot of time in the water. The Australian lifestyle is in many ways built around our access to beautiful beaches and warm days. We visit the beach, we swim in our backyard pools, we go boating, camping, fishing … activities that all rely on our ability to swim and be safe in the water. We are practicing our survival skills regularly, often without even realising it. And this additional practice is often very noticeable when your children come to their lessons, as we see them improve and progress at a much faster rate.

However in Winter many of these activities stop. So it’s more important than ever to ensure that your children’s swimming lessons continue. Otherwise, your children could have a break of 4-6 months where they’re not swimming at all, and when they do eventually return to the water they have a LOT of catching up to do.

There are many reasons to continue to swim over Winter, and some ways to make it more appealing to you and your children!


  • When Winter is over, your children will be back in the pool or at the beach with gusto. But if they’re returning to the water after an extended absence, their survival skills will have regressed. By continuing their swimming lessons throughout Winter, they will be much better equipped to cope with potentially life-threatening situations which can easily arise when swimming.
  • We also see increased fear levels from children who have had an extended break from the water. Children who were confident and happy swimmers at the end of Summer can often become fearful of the water if they haven’t been exposed to it for a long period, which can be distressing for the children and parents.

Progress & Consistency

  • Like any skill, the more you practice, the better you become. And the less you practice, the faster you lose the skills that you once had! This is especially true for younger children – repetition helps them to learn and remember. And it only takes two or three missed lessons before we start to see a noticeable regression. By continuing your swimming lessons over Winter, you’re ensuring that your children’s skills are maintained, and that the money you’ve invested in the warmer months isn’t wasted!


  • Even though the water at Little Fishes Swim School is always set at 32 degrees, it’s important to ensure that your children are warm and dry when the finish their lesson, before leaving the centre. We suggest using a swimming parka (pictured below – available to purchase from reception) or bringing your child’s dressing gown. Make sure they are completely dry before you leave, and warmly dressed. Don’t leave the centre in wet swimmers and/or wet towels.

  • There is a misconception that children who attend swimming lessons during Winter are more prone to cold and flu. In fact, regular exercise, including swimming lessons, helps to increase your children’s fitness and immunity. Children don’t catch colds by swimming in winter – so long as you maintain their body warmth when leaving the centre you will actually be doing them a favour by continuing to swim in the cooler months. Our pool is constantly heated to 32 degrees, making the water comfortable and inviting. And our Ozone filtration system is proven to remove more bacteria than chlorine pools, making our water healthier for your children.
